Characteristics of supercontinuum generation in tapered fibers using femtosecond laser pulses

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Drawing single mode fibers over a flame generates tapered fibers with waist diameters of approximately 1–3 micrometers and waist lengths of up to 90 mm. We demonstrate how the profile of such tapered fibers can be determined. We then characterize the white light that is generated in a variety of such fibers, showing its dependence on waist length and waist diameter and demonstrating its dependence on pulse parameters such as pulse duration, spectral position, and pulse power. A comparison with theoretical calculations using a nonlinear Schrödinger equation model including Kerr nonlinearities is given. Furthermore, we show XFROG spectrograms of the pulses propagating through tapered fibers, confirming the model of soliton splitting in the anomalous dispersion regime. PACS 42.65.Wi; 42.81.Qb

Square Lattice Elliptical- Core Photonic Crystal Fiber Soliton-Effect Compressor at 1550nm

In this paper, we investigate the evolution of supercontinuum and femtosecond optical pulses generation through square lattice elliptical-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) at 1550 nm by using both full-vector multipole method (M.P.M) and novel concrete algorithms: symmetric  split-step Fourier (SSF) and  fourth order Runge Kutta (RK4) which is an accurate method to solve the general  nonlinear...

Soliton filtering from a supercontinuum: a tunable femtosecond pulse source

We have investigated the generation of supercontinuum in tapered Y-shaped fibers in the nanosecond pump regime. This fiber used to fabricate the tapers has, in addition, a Gedoped core which enhances the nonlinearity of the material and the Raman gain. The fiber was pumped at 1064 nm in the ns pump regime (0.6 ns pulses and up to 3.2 kW peak power). The taper had a uniform waist of 0.9 μm diame...

Nonlinear characterization of robust multimaterial chalcogenide nanotapers for infrared supercontinuum generation

Wepresent the results of an investigation of the nonlinear characteristics of a new class of robust, multimaterial, allsolid chalcogenide nanotapers prepared from high-index-contrast chalcogenide fibers. The fiber is drawn from a preform produced bymultimaterial coextrusion and consists of chalcogenide core and cladding (which dictate the optical properties) and a built-in thermally compatible p...

Broadband supercontinuum generation in air using tightly focused femtosecond laser pulses.

Supercontinuum generation in air using tightly focused femtosecond laser pulses was investigated experimentally. Broadband white-light emission covering the whole visible spectral region was generated. Spectral broadening extended only to the blue side of the fundamental frequency due to the phase modulation induced by the strong ionization of air. Numerical simulation was also performed to con...

Widely tunable femtosecond pulses from a tapered fiber for ultrafast microscopy and multiphoton applications

Sub-50fs transform limited pulses are produced in the 670-1050nm range by compressing sections of the ultrabroadband supercontinuum generated in a tapered fiber injected with pulses from a cavity dumped Ti:Sapphire laser. 2-Photon imaging of fluorescent beads is demonstrated. Biological and chemical applications are discussed.
